"Why should I switch from a bitmap graphic file?"

Bitmap images, such as those that result from scanning a signature or logo, tend to be very large in size and not always at the optimum resolution to create a good image. There is an unfortunate trade-off with bitmaps: they need to be larger in file size to look better.

Fonts on the other hand fall under the family of "vector graphics" and are much smaller in size than bitmaps. Also, they can be resized up or down without any loss in image quality - they will always be crisp and clear. Fonts are also a part of the operating system so they are accessible to all applications. There is no need for graphic import filters, knowledge of graphic programs, or tracking of image file locations. This is a true blessing for the network manager who may have to deal with many users who have varying degrees of technical/computer skills.
